He is said to have been born at Midnight and it is traditional to fast and hold vigil all night, then celebrate at midnight.
Ways To Celebrate:
-Place an image of the baby or child Krishna in a prominent place in your home, perhaps in a cradle or hammock.
-Decorate your home and altar with fresh flowers
-Watch movies or plays about young Krishna’s life (Krishna Leela)
-Set up an obstacle course to reach a pot of butter since Krishna’s favorite activity as a baby was stealing butter.
-At midnight (or wake up early the next day) have gifts, dancing, games, and food.
-Draw footprints showing Lord Krishna entering the home (I did this one year with chalk when I had a concrete balcony to my apartment)

Shri Krishna Janmashtami Mathura the City of Lord Krishna is situated in Uttar Pradesh. Celebration of Shri Krishna Janmashtami is on high level in Gujarat. This festival has importance not only in the homes of Vaishnavs but also among the followers of other sects and Gods of Hindu religion.

The whole day people observe fast and thus do not eat anything. At the stroke of midnight, the devotees gather to bathe Lord Krishna and place him in the swing or the jhoola. After singing Janmashtami related songs and devotional songs, food or the bhog is placed before the lord. The next day after morning, people worship lord Krishna and then have the same food offered to the lord. The entire day is spent in festivities. The whole day Raslila is played wherein different scenes from the life of God are played. Boys of the neighborhood form a human pyramid to break earthen pots filled with buttermilk or traditional dahi handi.

The sweets made are the ones, which are made up of milk or milk products. In fact in many houses, butter is traditionally prepared at home and then offered to the God. The entire day of Janmashtami is celebrated with great fun. People with small kids make them dress up as little Krishna and Radha. From schools to other social and cultural institutions, such competitions are held and one can see people participating in great numbers. In short, the festival brings people closer to each other in every way possible.

Incredible India, the country known for its diverseness of culture and heritage and for its vividness of tradition. Since times unknown, India has been celebrating various auspicious days. These days have utmost significance in the ancient history. The traditions and rituals followed in this country are unmatched. Deities are worshipped by a lot of devotees. Faith in god can be seen at its peek. One such day is Krishna Janmashtami, celebrated to signify the birth of Lord Krishna. It is generally celebrated in the month of July or August on the eighth night of Krishna paksh (or the dark fortnight). The idols of Lord Krishna are decorated and revealed at midnight. It is believed that he was born at midnight and thus, the celebration starts after it.

Krishna, Kanhaiya, Nandgopal, Vasudev, Gopal. What’s in a name? He will still be worshipped as the supreme being. He is also known as the God-child (because many times he is represented as a child). He is considered to be a form of Lord Vishnu. Krishna, is generally recognized by the pale blue color seen on all his idols. It represents the wheatish complexion he possessed. Sometimes, he is also known as Murali because of the flute he used to hold in his hands. Janmashtami is celebrated as the day of his birth, which, again was an interesting incident. Krishna was born in prison. He was the eighth son of Devaki and Vasudev.  A prophet predicted the death of Kansa (Devaki’s brother) by the hands of her eighth son. Thus, he imprisoned her with her husband. He killed the first six children whereas the seventh one was thought to be a miscarriage. But actually, the child was secretly transported to Rohini. After these seven children, Krishna was born. His life was in danger, and therefore he was secretly taken to his foster parents (Yasoda and Nanda) who raised him.

Janmashtami is celebrated all over India in various ways. The Indians keep a fast. Also, maakhan and mishri is distributed to the devotees because that is considered to be his favorite. It is a national holiday. The most famous ritual performed is the “dahi handi”. It is a delight to watch. The people are filled with enthusiasm. An earthen pot filled with buttermilk is tied to a height. The main aim is to crack that pot and spill the buttermilk all over. For doing so, a human pyramid is formed. The person at the top breaks the pot with a coconut and hence the buttermilk is spilled. At some places, the “dahi handi” is a competition and the team who crack maximum number of handis is rewarded. It is particularly popular in Maharashtra. Lord Krishna used to steal butter from houses and to symbolize this, footprints are made out of flour in southern India. Devotional songs are sung on this occasion. Some people also visit Gokul, Mathura and Vrindavan because these are the places where Lord Krishna grew up. Various other rituals can be seen in different parts of the country.

Krishna Janmashtami is another example of the triumph of good over evil. A famous proverb says,
“Whenever you see darkness, there is extraordinary opportunity for the light to burn brighter.”
Some say that Krishna was born to rule out the darkness or rather, the evil. The sole purpose of his birth was to eradicate the evil that was prevailing. Lots of sacred verses are written on him. They describe how mischievous he was and yet how powerful. We hope Krishna Janmashtami 2013 brings hope in everyone’s heart. Because someone has correctly said :-

साधारणतया इस व्रतके  विषय में दो मत हैं । स्मार्तलोग अर्धरात्रि स्पर्श होनेपर या   रोहिणी नक्षत्र का योग होने पर सप्तमीसहित अष्टमीमें भी उपवास करते हैं , किन्तु वैष्णवलोग सप्तमी का किन्चिनमात्र स्पर्श होनेपर द्वितीय दिवस ही उपवास करते हैं ।  वैष्णवों में उदयाव्यपिनी अष्टमी एवं रोहिणी नक्षत्र को ही मान्यता एवं प्रधानता दी जाती हैं ।

|| SHRI KRISHNA SHARANAM MAM ||

This is the Birthday of Lord Krishna, the eighth Divine Incarnation. It falls on the 8th day of the dark half of the month of Bhadrapada (August-September). This is one of the greatest of all Hindu festivals. Lord Krishna was born at midnight. A twenty-four hour fast is observed on this day, which is broken at midnight.
Temples are decorated for the occasion. Kirtans are sung, bells are rung, the conch is blown, and Sanskrit hymns are recited in praise of Lord Krishna. At Mathura, the birthplace of Lord Krishna, special spiritual gatherings are organised at this time. Pilgrims from all over India attend these festive gatherings. The Lord appeared when the moon entered the house of Vrishabha at the constellation of the star Rohini, on Wednesday, the 8th day of the second fortnight of the month of Sravana, which corresponds to the month of Bhadrapada Krishnapaksha according to the Barhaspatyamana, in the year of Visvavasu, 5,172 years ago (from 1945), which means 3227 B.C.
During the daylight hours of the astami one should observe the vow of fasting in the association of devotees, and staying awake at night, at midnight one should perform the abhiseka according the vidhi just described, accompanied by joyful singing and dancing.
The next day one should celebrate the Lord’s appearance with great festivity and respect mahaprasadam with the vaisnavas. One who performs worship of th Lord on Janmastami day according to the method stated above, and with the mood of service of the inhabitants of Vraja, will certainly gain the affection of Krishna. Having gained that affection he will be blessed with deep love of Krishna (prema) and will directly serve the Lord in Vrindavana eternally.

इस दिन केले के खंभे , आम अथवा अशोक के पल्लव आदि से घरका द्वार सजाया जाता है । दरवाजे पर मंगल कलश एवं मूसल स्थापित करे । रात्रिमें भगवान् श्रीकृष्ण की मूर्ति अथवा शालग्रामजी को विधिपूर्वक पंचामृत से स्नान कराकर षोडशोपचार से विष्णु पूजन करना चाहिऐ ।
‘ ॐ नमो भगवते वासुदेवाय ‘ – इस मन्त्र से पूजन कर तथा वस्त्रालंकर आदि से सुसज्जित करके भगवान् को सुन्दर सजे हुए हिंडोले में प्रतिष्ठित करे । धूप, दीप और अन्नरहित नैवेध तथा प्रसूति के समय सेवन होने वाले सुस्वाद मिष्ठान , जयेकेदार नमकीन पदार्थो एवं उस समय उत्तपन्न होने वाले विभिन्न प्रकार के फल, पुष्पों और नारियल , छुहारे , अनार बिजौरे, पंजीरी, नारियल के मिष्ठान तथा नाना प्रकार के मेवे का प्रसाद सजाकर श्रीभगवान् को अर्पण करे ।
दिन में भगवान् की मूर्ति के सामने बैठकर कीर्तन करे तथा भगवान् का गुणगान करे और रात्रिको बारह बजे गर्भ से जन्म लेने के प्रतीक स्वरुप खीरा फोड़कर भगवान् का जन्म कराये एवं जन्मोत्सव मनाये । जन्मोत्सव के पश्चात कर्पूरादी प्रज्वलित कर समवेत स्वर से भगवान् की आरती स्तुति करे, पश्चात प्रसाद वितरण करे।

गजब का संयोग बन रहा इस बार जन्माष्टमी पर

धार्मिक डेस्क/वर्ल्ड नाउ। श्रीकृष्ण जन्माष्टमी पर 28 अगस्त को इस बार गजब का संयोग बन रहा है। श्रीकृष्ण का जन्म भाद्र मास के कृष्णपक्ष की अष्टमी को हुआ था। उस दिन बुधवार था और रोहिणी नक्षत्र। यही संयोग इस बार बन रहा है। अगली बार यह संयोग 2020 में बनेगा।

पं. राजेश कुमार शर्मा ने बताया कि सभी पुराणों एवं जन्माष्टमी सम्बन्धी ग्रन्थों से स्पष्ट होता है कि कृष्णजन्म के सम्पादन का प्रमुख समय है ‘श्रावण कृष्ण पक्ष की अष्टमी की अर्धरात्रि’ (यदि पूर्णिमान्त होता है तो भाद्रपद मास में किया जाता है)।

यह तिथि दो प्रकार की है-
1– बिना रोहिणी नक्षत्र की और
2–  रोहिणी नक्षत्र वाली। इस बार रोहिणी नक्षत्र वाली कृष्ण जन्माष्टमी का योग बन रहा है।

28-08-2013 को अष्टमी – 28:10:12 तक है नक्षत्र : कृतिका – 12:41:51 तक और नक्षत्र : रोहिणी – 15:29:26 सूर्योदय पर कृतिका नक्षत्र और दिन के  12:50 बजे से रोहिणी नक्षत्र प्रारंभ हो जाएगा जो मध्यरात्रि में कृष्ण जन्म के समय तक रहेगा।

कन्हैया का जन्म भाद्र मास के कृष्णपक्ष की अष्टमी को हुआ था। उस दिन बुधवार था और रोहिणी नक्षत्र। यह संयोग सात साल बाद फिर बन रहा है। श्रीकृष्ण जन्माष्टमी पर 28 अगस्त 2013 को इस बार गजब का संयोग बन रहा है

उन्होंने बताया ऐसा संयोग के लिए कई-कई साल इंतजार करने पर आता है। वर्ष 2000 में से यह संयोग चौथी बार हो रहा है। वर्ष दो हजार में भी यह संयोग आया था। उसके बाद 2003 और फिर 2006 में। अब 2013 के बाद यह संयोग 2020 में बनेगा।

भारतीय पौराणिक ग्रंथों के अनुसार कृष्ण सभी दृष्टि से पूर्णावतार हैं। आध्यात्मिक, नैतिक या दूसरी किसी भी दृष्टि से देखेंगे तो मालूम होगा कि कृष्ण जैसा समाज उद्धारक दूसरा कोई पैदा हुआ ही नहीं है।

जब-जब भी धर्म का पतन हुआ है और धरती पर असुरों के अत्याचार बढ़े हैं तब-तब भगवान ने पृथ्वी पर अवतार लेकर सत्य और धर्म की स्थापना की है। भाद्रपद माह की कृष्ण पक्ष की अष्टमी की मध्यरात्रि को अत्याचारी कंस का विनाश करने के लिए मथुरा में भगवान श्रीकृष्ण ने अवतार लिया था।

- उपवास की पूर्व रात्रि को हल्का भोजन करें और ब्रह्मचर्य का पालन करें।

- उपवास के दिन प्रातःकाल स्नानादि नित्यकर्मों से निवृत्त हो जाएं। पश्चात सूर्य, सोम, यम, काल, संधि, भूत, पवन, दिक्‌पति, भूमि, आकाश, खेचर, अमर और ब्रह्मादि को नमस्कार कर पूर्व या उत्तर मुख बैठें।

- इसके बाद जल, फल, कुश और गंध लेकर संकल्प करें :
ममखिलपापप्रशमनपूर्वक सर्वाभीष्ट सिद्धये
श्रीकृष्ण जन्माष्टमी व्रतमहं करिष्ये॥

अब मध्याह्न के समय काले तिलों के जल से स्नान कर देवकीजी के लिए 'सूतिकागृह' नियत करें।

- तत्पश्चात भगवान श्रीकृष्ण की मूर्ति या चित्र स्थापित करें।

- मूर्ति में बालक श्रीकृष्ण को स्तनपान कराती हुई देवकी हों और लक्ष्मीजी उनके चरण स्पर्श किए हों अथवा ऐसे भाव हो।

- इसके बाद विधि-विधान से पूजन करें।

पूजन में देवकी, वासुदेव, बलदेव, नंद, यशोदा और लक्ष्मी इन सबका नाम क्रमशः निर्दिष्ट करना चाहिए।

फिर निम्न मंत्र से पुष्पांजलि अर्पण करें :-
'प्रणमे देव जननी त्वया जातस्तु वामनः।
वसुदेवात तथा कृष्णो नमस्तुभ्यं नमो नमः।
सुपुत्रार्घ्यं प्रदत्तं में गृहाणेमं नमोऽस्तुते।'

अंत में रतजगा रखकर भजन-कीर्तन करें। साथ ही प्रसाद वितरण करके कृष्‍ण जन्माष्टमी पर्व मनाएं।

• Invite friends and family to your place and organize a midnight kirtan followed by aarti.
• Decorate home for the festival by hanging balloons & flower garlands.
• Recite hymns and other devotional songs at your place, to create a spiritual ambience.
• Keep a daylong fast and break it by eating the ‘Prasad’ of Shri Krishna at midnight.
• Tell your children the story of Krishna’s birth so that they understand the significance of the festival.
